Dom Watch might not be one of the bigger names in watchmaking, but this very nice oversized dress watch from the 1940’s proves that it certainly worth to take a closer look to some of the lesser known brands. Before the Quartz Crisis forced approximately 1.000 companies in the watch industry our of business between 1969 and 1979, many small watch brands existed in Switzerland. Most used movement from larger manufacturers and placed them in case and dials of their own design. In the 1940’s and 1950’s the average mens wristwatch size was between 31-34mm and a watch of 37mm can truly be considered exceptionally large for this era. Therefore, not many watches of this size were made in this period and well preserved examples are increasingly hard to find.
The watch is in NOS (New Old Stock) condition, when we acquired this watch is was not running since the original lubricants were completely dried out and blocking the movement. During service, the dried out lubricates were removed and the watch is now back in fully functioning condition. The case shows some very light storage scratches but furthermore the case is in excellent condition. The dial and hands are in excellent condition.
