Description

When it comes to “haute horlogerie” dress watches, Vacheron & Constantin is for sure one of the brands which comes to mind. This Vacheron & Constantin ref. 6406 was made in the early 60’s. The watch had a yellow gold case with a very fine coin edge structure around the crystal. The caseback is domed, giving the watch an extremely thin appearance. The dials has applied gold indexes and gold hands, which are of course most beautifully polished and beveled. Inside the case in the manually wound Vacheron & Constantin K1002 in-house movement with central seconds hand. This movement is superbly finished and the attention to detail is unbelievable.

Condition

The watch already had a long & useful life with it’s previous owner, based on the number of service marks in the caseback. The yellow gold case is in good condition and has signs of some polishing and wear, like a few small dents in the caseback. Moisture caused some dark spots to develop on the dial, but luckily this is only the dial. The movement is in good condition without any moisture damage. The movement has of course been serviced and is keeping time well within one minute a day.

Vacheron & Constantin is the oldest watch brand on earth. The brand was founded in 1755 by Jean-Marc Vacheron. In 1819 he was joined by Francois Constantin and the name was changed to Vacheron & Constantin. Vacheron & Constantin forms, together with Audemars Piguet and Patek Philipe, the Holy Trinity of watchmaking. These brands are regarded as the most prestigous manufacturers of the high quality watches. In general, watches from these brands have a very classic design and superbly finished movements.
