Zenith was founded in 1865 in a little village in the Swiss Jura mountains named Le Locle. During the winters, when all farmland and acres were covered in a thick layer of snow, the farmers would work in their houses making watch parts. George Favre Jacot was inspired by the industrial approach of watch manufacturing that he saw in the United States. He was able to bring all craftsmen under one roof and GFJ (George Favre Jacot) was born, being one of the first true Swiss watch factories. The factory was later named Zenith, named after one of their most succesfull movements. Zenith is an astrogical term to describe means the highest point in the sky. Zenith has been pioneering the development of outstanding movements for decades. They developped countless succesfull calibers which found their way into millions of watches. The crown jewel probably is the Zenith El Primero movement, which took 10 years of painstaking development and was the first automatic chronograph movement in the world launched in 1969.
This Zenith manual wound watch from the 1960’s is your chance to own one of the many great watches that Zenith made over the last centuries. Although it’s almost 50 years old, there is absolutely no reason why this watch couldn’t be your everyday watch, as long as you treat it with a bit of care like any vintage watch deserves. The movement (Zenith cal. 2541) is a true in-house movement, made by one of the better watch manufacturers out there.
